Frequently Asked Questions
What thickness wetsuit do I need?
Water temperature is your guide. A 3/2mm steamer covers most of the year across NSW and the warmer stretches of the Victorian Surf Coast. Step up to a 4/3mm for Victorian and southern winters, or drop to a 2mm springsuit for Queensland and tropical water year-round. See the full breakdown in the wetsuit thickness guide.
What is the difference between a steamer and a springsuit?
A steamer is a full-length suit covering wrist to ankle, built for water below 18°C. A springsuit has shorter arms and legs, offering more freedom and comfort in warmer conditions. Steamers run from 3/2mm to 5/3mm, while springsuits sit at 2mm and below.
What's the difference between chest zip, back zip, and zip-free?
Back zip is the easiest to get on and off, making it a common choice for first-time wetsuit buyers. Chest zip seals better against flushing and gives you more freedom through the back. Zip-free offers the most flex and the most watertight fit, but is trickier to get into. The men's wetsuit guide covers all three side by side if you're not sure which to choose.
