Westen Hirst And Jasmine Studer Win Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang

Westen Hirst and Jasmine Studer have just won the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang in pumping waves. The day was a tube-threading, channel cheering, surf fest of the highest order.

Barely three days into the waiting period, the iconic event was called ON, with tube maestros from around the globe scrambling to get there on time. The likes of Mason Ho, Ivan Florence, Tosh Tudor, Balaram Stack and more were all there as part of the prestigious invitee list, along with some of Indonesia’s true surfing legends.

Jasmine Studer absolutely dominated the women’s final, getting a perfect 10 and backing it up with an 8.17. Willow Hardy was proper charging to stay in striking distance, netting a 9 and back up 8.33 but couldn’t quite take the trophy. Conditions were flawless all afternoon delivering barrel after barrel after barrel. The women sent it on everything. It was some of the best female tuberiding the world has seen outside of the Pipe Masters a few years back.

Ziggy Mackenzie scored what could have been a 10 point ride a minute after the buzzer sounded signifying the end of the final, as Jasmine celebrated her way into the channel.

“I’ve been surfing here [at Padang] for a long time now. Since I was 10 or maybe even younger. I got my first proper barrel here, and now finally I’m in The Rip Curl Cup and I won and it’s just… crazy,” said Weston.

There were also plenty of vibes in the channel, with Jed Smith commenting in the back of a boat nursing his arm in a sling. Island Brewing were serving beers for spectators on the beach too. Overall, it was a day for the history books, and one thing is certainly clear: the future of Indonesian surfing is looking incredibly bright.

Massive thanks to all our sponsors; Island Brewing, Dragon, Indo Amazon, BGS, Red Bull, and Biznet. Big love for making such an iconic event possible. A true celebration of surfing at its most pure.
