Mitch first strapped on a wakeboard at age nine, near his home in Narangba, just north of Brisbane. "I just liked it and it came really naturally," Mitch says. "My parents have always been really supportive… I wouldn’t have been able to do this if they hadn’t bought the boat!"
It wasn’t until he was 13 that Mitch started taking his sport seriously. It was also around that time he realised he might just be able to take it all the way… and he’s doing an amazing job!
Outside wakeboarding, Mitch doesn’t have much time for anything else. When he does get some spare time, though, he likes to produce his own wakeboarding footage.
"Sometimes I’ll go out with some friends and we’ll film each other and then I’ll edit it together on my laptop," he says. If I wasn’t wakeboarding, I’d probably try to get into video editing somewhere down the track."
Mitch’s success hasn’t come without a lot of hard work. His advice for anybody wanting to make a career out of wakeboarding is to stay focused. His secret to success is about having the right attitude – his motto is ‘just stick with it, and don’t get distracted’.
He may be receiving his share of the limelight, but for this bright, young star – "It’s all about fun!"
