The Rip Curl Invitational Thowdown, a specialty event and part of the Rip Curl Australian Freeride Pro, was held under lights in Thredbo last night.
Involving the best freeride skiers and snowboarders in the country, the exhibition “jam session” took place on one of the most imaginative freestyle courses ever built. The brainchild of the Thredbo terrain park crew, the course was a series of features including an up-rail, two gap jumps, a D-transition, a tyre tower and more.
The event is “rider judged”, but technical tricks and full use of the features were what the event is all about.
A big crowd was on hand to watch some spectacular action with defending champion Boen Ferguson (Jindabyne, NSW) claiming the Open Men’s Ski and Adrian Pelly (Albury, NSW) winning the Open Men’s Snowboard. Saph Farrell (Jindabyne, NSW) won the Open Women’s Snowboard and all of the winners are competing in the finals of the Rip Curl Australian FreeRide Pro on Thredbo’s Bluff today.
The Rip Curl Australian FreeRide Pro is part of the Thredbo FreeRide Series with proud media partners Mountainwatch.com, Snowboarder and Powderhound Magazine.
